SOUTH AMERICAN FESTIVAL
Bondi Pavilion Theatre: 15/02/10 - 20/02/10

"BRAZILIAN MYST”
Brazil’s history and culture are colourful and rich with mystery. In its midst is Capoeira, an art form surrounded by myth, its creation and development clouded by the ugly face of slavery and later forced into a world of criminality and finally brought back into the light of day to spread across the world as a fight and a dance, a body dialogue.
The play tells the story of this Brazilian art form, from its roots in Africa to its branches in Brazil going through the evils of slavery and persecution, then dragged down into the underworld of street thugs before evaporating the mist surrounding it to show itself to the world as a graceful fight, a deadly dance, and a symbol of freedom.
